HARBEC is excited to have formed a partnership with Cool Polymers a manufacturer of proprietary high-performance injection molding materials to bring the Xyloy™ Metal Injection Molding process to a broader market.  By combining HARBEC’s long experience with building and running injection molds and the unique processing properties of the Cool Polymers Xyloy™ zinc-aluminum alloy, we are able to produce tight tolerance high-performance metal parts directly out of the mold.  By eliminating secondary machining operations, this “net shape” molding process significantly reduces costs for complex and tight tolerance part designs.

The Xyloy™ Metal Injection Molding process is unique for several reasons.

Tooling.  Standard hardened steel injection molds are used, providing longer tool life than metal die-casting molds.  Existing molds designed and built for plastic parts can be modified for use as Xyloy™ Metal Injection Molding molds.

Equipment.   Conventional injection molding presses receive a series of proprietary processing modifications.  This configuration moderates capital costs, provides production flexibility, and delivers short cycle times.

Secondary Operations.  After part degating, there are no costly machining operations to achieve required tolerances.  Parts come out of the mold to final tolerance.

Material Performance.  The Xyloy™ alloy has thermal transfer, strength and weight properties desirable to many advanced applications.  Parts molded from Xyloy™ readily accept a wide range of coatings, plating and finishes.

Environmental.  The Xyloy™ Metal Injection Molding process uses significantly less energy than conventional die-casting followed by secondary machining.  Also, Xyloy™ scrap and runners are fully recyclable.
