| At
HARBEC, we’re
smart decision makers when it comes to our overall business impact
and profitability. Before investing in any solution, environmental
or other, we undertake significant due diligence efforts to determine
if they are cost effective and will result in positive return on investment.
As a result, we’ve learned how to save money while becoming green.
We know that, when it comes to energy savings, all of our decisions positively
impact our bottom line because we do it all in-house.
Our wind turbine allows us to predict future energy costs today. More specifically,
we know what at least 20% of our energy costs will be 25 years from now.
In an economy where electricity and natural gas prices are far outpacing
the rate of inflation, this is not an idle claim.
We also have energy hedging systems. Our generators can run in either of
two modes: thermal or electrical priority. This allows us to hedge our
costs. When natural gas costs tripled, we moved to thermal priority. If
gas costs fluctuate again, we have the flexibility to switch back and maintain
our economic advantage.
Our competitors are well aware of the fact that we’re getting increased
work because of our environmental efforts but they don’t typically
realize that we’re saving money for our customers in the process.
Sadly, there are certain things we can’t control—such as market
pricing for raw materials. However, where we can control costs, we do.
We’re all in this together.
HARBEC embraces a philosophy called the "Triple Bottom Line". This theory emphasizes the importance of considering three main concepts within business:
-
People: Fair and beneficial practices toward the employees and the community that we operate in that insure a safe and healthy work place and a positive impact on the neighborhood.exploiting or endangering no one.
-
Planet: Sustainable manufacturing practices that benefit the natural order by doing no harm and curtailing environmental impact by reducing the ecological footprint
-
Profit: The lasting economic benefit an organization has on its economic environment.ideally, not confused with internal profit of the organization. At HARBEC, we deliberately do confuse it- and it works well.

As HARBEC continues to become
firmly entrenched in a significant and growing environmental market niche,
there are a few things we want from you:
HARBEC would love to partner with a firm who is embracing our environmental
values as strongly as we are and work together to garner significant
press about our collective efforts in environmental sustainability.
We believe it’s a win-win situation.
Examples of firms with whom we want to write the book:
-
Energy
Star® qualified
manufacturers
Consumers love your Energy Star products:
why not take them to the next level with e-friendly parts inside?
Partner with HARBEC to manufacture “green parts” in
order to complement, and more strongly market, your
Energy Star claims.
-
Manufacturers
who are ISO 14000 certified
We have an action item for you: Ensure your suppliers are also environmentally
compliant. Take even greater responsibility for your
manufacturing practices through sustainability throughout your supply chain.
By partnering
with
HARBEC, you can add (and fulfill) two new measures: “impact on
environment” and “impact on bottom line.”
-
Manufacturers
who are currently buying green power
If using green power is important to you, please ask yourself, “why
aren’t we buying parts from someone who is doing the same?” We
share your passion.
